We list down the things one should do before moving to a new house:
1. Get the paint and cleaning:
It is a good idea to get the home cleaned professionally before leaving the house. Some people like leaving the house painted as well. Getting whitewashing done is a sure shot way of getting the house cleaned.
2. Pay all the dues:
When moving house, it is a good habit to pay the electricity bill, water bill and any other utility bill. Paying your domestic help, electrician, plumber or any other helper is an excellent way to leave the place. It is also essential to inform your daily helpers about your move. Making sure that no one has any complaint regarding the non- payment of dues is necessary.
3. Pest- proofing:
Before moving to your new place, make sure you have done pest proofing in your current house. You might not be able to see the pests roaming around, but they are there and taking them to the new home with you is not a good idea.
4. Making arrangements for your pets and children:
When you are busy shifting your house, taking care of your children and pets can be difficult. It is a good idea to ask your friends or family to look after them for a day. It is also essential to make sure that the new house is sufficiently safe and secure for them.
5. New switches and wiring:
If the new house you are moving to is not a brand new construction, then it is a good idea to get the switched and wirings checked. If the new home is semi-furnished or fully furnished and your new landlord is providing you with specific electrical equipment, it is a good idea to get them checked and inspected before moving.
6. Collect the documents:
Moving to a new house means a lot of documentation. Most of them could be collected online while few need to be collected in person. Make sure you have all of them ready before moving out.
7. Get new locks:
Safety and security of your house is the priority. Hence, when you get the keys to your new place, it is essential to get the locks changed immediately. It will make sure that apart from you no one has the spare key or a duplicate to enter your house.
8. Fix the damage in the old property:
The house you are living in might has got some damage over the years. A good tenant owns the damage done to property by him and gets it fixed before leaving. If you think you will not be able to get them fixed, it is better to pay the landlord the sum to get the damages repaired.
