Improper construction and design can lead to structural defects in the building. The most commonly seen structural problems are water seepage, wall plaster chipping, cracks on the walls and the floor. These can affect the cost and the overall health of the property as well.
Here are a few ways through which one can find out the structural defects in the house:
Weak foundation
The basis of a strong building is a sturdy foundation. If there is a fault in the foundation, then it may cause problems. There are multiple signs of poor foundation like difficulty in closing doors and windows. The crumbling of concrete of its flaking is another sign of poor foundation. Most people do not recognise, but if you have trees
nearby the house, then its roots may destabilise the foundation of the house in a few years.
Cracks on the walls and floor
Due to change in the atmospheric temperature and moisture content, the concrete expands and shrinks which causes the cracks on the floor and walls. In general, they go undetected as they are hairline in nature. But if the cracks keep getting wider and run through the length of walls and floor, then there can be some issue with the foundation. It is better to get the help of an expert and get them fixed before the problem causes severe damage to the building.
Faults in the plumbing
If old or incompatible piping materials were used while construction then, they may cause problems in future. An issue like clogging of water pipes, leakage in the shower pans or toilet are the most common issues that are faced due to the faulty plumbing. These can lead to mould contamination. In such a case one should ask the engineer to take a look and help in resolving the issue.
Issues with the improper wiring
The electrical wiring of the house should be carried out by an experienced person. Faulty writing can lead to insufficient power, overload problem etc. The defective wiring can also cause a severe accident if not given immediate attention. It is better to get in touch with an electrical inspector and get them to check on the wiring and fix the same.
Flooring defects
If there are huge gaps or cracks on the floor, then there is a defect in the flooring. The seepage of water from the ground, loose tiles etc. is a common problem that are faced due to the faulty flooring.
Faulty air conditioning and heating
In case of improper heating or the cooling through the ACs and heaters, then it is the due to faulty installation of the same.
