- New hob or new kitchen? If you’re replacing an old hob, you may want to continue with the same size and style. However, if it’s a new kitchen you are furnishing, then the choice will be dictated by the cabinetry and material palette.
- Built-in or table-top? Table-top hobs don’t require as much planning as the built-in ones. Hobs that set within the countertops will need pre-determined cut-outs in the kitchen platform.
- How many burners? Hobs come with three to five burners. Three are apt for low to normal usage; four for normal to heavy usage; and five for heavy usage for a large family.
- What am I cooking with? The options are gas and electricity. The former operates on natural gas or LPG, and enjoys certain advantages over its electric counter in terms of cooking performance and cost of operation.
- What is the size of my cooking pot? Matching the sizes of the pots to those of the burners will make sure that you won’t waste energy and that cooking with be thorough.
- What materials have gone in its making? Superior products use stainless steel of AISI 304 grade and tempered glass.
- Any additional features? Look out for ‘cool-touch’ knobs and sensors that cut off gas during accidental flame failure.
- What about warranty and after-sales service? Added benefits such as free installation, warranties, guarantee for availability of spares and round-the-clock customer support would be nice. These will only sweeten the experience of using a good product.
