Walls gather dust over a period of time. It needs to be cleaned periodically. Housekeeping professional Pravesh Pachori gives us simple tips to keep your walls in a pristine condition.
1. First, remove loose dirt and dust from the ceiling using a vacuum cleaner or dry, soft cloth.
2. Once the dry dirt has disappeared, the walls are ready to be washed. Remove artwork/wall-mounted accessories from the walls and move your furniture to the centre of the room. This creates a good amount of workspace for you to start the cleaning process.
3. Keep two buckets handy: one with a soapy solution and one with clean water. Always start with a small width area at a time all the way up and then move down the wall. In circular motions, clean the area with soap water, followed by a rinse with plain water.
4. Avoid using coloured soaps or dyed sponges as it may produce stains. To protect your floors, lay a drop cloth to catch any water that runs off the walls.
5. Now, take a towel and dry the area that you washed and rinsed. Check the wall for streaks when you get to the top -- which can be wiped away with a towel.
1. To remove stains, make a paste of baking soda and water or toothpaste. Apply this on the marks on the wall. Then, gently rub the paste and leave it for few minutes. Wash it with warm water. All the marks and stain will vanish.
2. Take 1 cup ammonia, ½ cup vinegar, ¼ cup baking soda and 1 gallon of warm water. Moisten a sponge, cloth or sponge mop with the mixture and start cleaning from the bottom and work in vertical section making your way towards the top, wiping the surface of walls till it is dirt free. Finally, rinse with clean water. If your walls have a rough texture, make use of nylon stocking or socks rather than a sponge.
