Finding your dream home and moving with family to a new home is a long task accomplished with mixed feelings. You might feel lost, excited, conscious, confused, tired, charged, in the new neighbourhood. Architect Onal Kothari gives you some simple ways to help you start a new chapter and settle in smoothly.
- To-do list
Prepare a checklist of things to do after you move in. This is one way of releasing the stress about what to do now, what to pick first or which task matters the most. - Believe in organized unpacking system
Unpacking things will get messier with the flow and seem a daunting task. The thumb rule lies in getting organized. Label things. This will make it easy for you to lift home pieces directly to the room. Also, it can help you divide the work wisely. - Rearrange the living room and kitchen first
Life is good with food. It is a place to get comfortable. Moving to a new place could be made much happening with the desired kitchen and living arrangements. Start with the kitchen and living furnishing first. - Kid’s involvement
One of the best ways to make your kids get more involved with their new home is to make them an active participant in the whole process. Depending on their age, let them lift their belongings, and ask them to unpack their stuffs. - Don’t forget the pets
If you own pets, help them adjust well with the change. Surround them with things that smell familiar to their previous neighbourhood. - Take a tour of your neighbourhood
Know your neighbourhood. Walk around with your family. Explore the nearest shopping area, medical emergency booths, nearest playground area for kids and other essential structures. If you own a super-active dog or cat, take them along as well. - Host a house-warming party
Get to know your neighbours by organizing a little social gathering at your place. Know your community, make new friends and enjoy your new place.
