7 tips to accessorize your mantel effectively

Though mantelpieces aren't a regular feature in an Indian home, they contribute greatly to the space in homes that have this element. These tips, which will to help you decorate a mantel, can be easily extended to consoles and shelves.
- To begin with figure out if you want to fill the mantel with an individual item or a collection of things. You can choose a vase, pot, etc. These can either be grouped or kept solo.
- Size is another aspect you need to consider while decorating your mantel. If you have decided to decorate with vase you can have a big size vase in the centre and small ones to its sides. You can have the pots or vase in the same colour for a nice effect.
- Use plants with flowers to decorate your mantel. Keep these in light-hued vase or pots to add freshness to the space. You can also change the plants according to the season. This gives a twist to the space.
- Do not put random stuff together. Group them according to their size or colour. This will keep the mantel from looking out of place.
- Place candles on the mantel for a serene and calm feel. This feature automatically makes the mantel the focal point of the space.
- Branches added to a glass vase stands out on a mantel. This gives a frame like structure to the mantle and adds drama to the space.
- If you have a collection of travel-related memorabilia, this is the best place to display them and your interest gets displayed without any effort.
