Mirrors not only add to the charm and enhance aesthetics; they are probably the best way to open up small spaces. When used rightly, they can also bring to your house, the prosperity quotient. In fact, there are certain taboos in Feng Shui about mirrors and when placed incorrectly can cause more harm than good. Here a few prosperity enhancing tips that you should keep in mind when doing up your space, says Rashi Gaur.

1. Bedroom: Ideally mirrors should not be used in the bedroom, but often there’s not too much you can do about this. Fret not. Just keep in mind that the mirror does not reflect the bed as a mirror reflecting the bed not only causes many a sleepless nights but also gets in a 3rd party into your marriage.

2. Narrow staircase: A narrow staircase can diminish your fortunes. Placing a mirror on the wall that’s going up a narrow staircase or even at the landing is a perfect way to open up the space and brings good energy to cramped spaces. Make sure it’s a full-length mirror. It helps the good energy to move up effortlessly.

The same can be done to cut out corners and small spaces of the house. When placed there, it does away with the afflictions of the missing zones, brightens the zone and gives more space to good energy (often referred as chi) to move around freely.

3. Dining Area: A mirror reflecting the dining table symbolically doubles the food placed on it. In other words, it ensures that there won’t be shortage of food in the house. A big beautiful mirror properly reflecting the dining table is one of the best things one can do to bring abundance into the household. Make sure it always reflects something beautiful. A glass bowl with fresh and sumptuous looking fruits is a perfect example.

4. A long hallway: Place a mirror at the end of a long hallway especially in the darker zone as it helps the stagnant energy to move forward. Make sure that two mirrors are not placed opposite to each other.

5. Bathroom: A full-length mirror can be placed inside the bathroom as long as it does not reflect the toilet seat. The mirror here will help to absorb the negative energy that is often associated with this space. In fact, if a mirror is placed outside the bathroom door, it is considered auspicious as it symbolically makes the bathroom disappear by practically hiding the door. The thing that you have to remember while doing so is to not let the mirror face the bed, the entrance door or any sharp corners and edges.

6. Main door or any entrance door: A mirror reflecting the main door or any entrance door will send away any good luck entering the house. If you must have a mirror at the entrance, then place it inside and let it face inside instead of facing the door.

7. Kitchen: Don’t put in a mirror in a kitchen as it will end up reflecting the hob or the burner, and this will increase the risk of fire.

Note:
Good walls for mirrors: North, East and South East
Bad walls for mirrors: South
