Eco-friendly or non-toxic paints are made from natural materials like clay, natural dyes, essential oils, water ,etc. Therefore these are considered safe for the environment and health. Here are a few tips to make your painting job easy using this paint.
- Firstly check the VOC (volatile organic compound) content. Always purchase paint with lowest VOC. The normal range is 5 to 200. The lower the VOC, lesser is the risk to health and environment.
- Always measure the area that you want to paint and buy accordingly. Do not purchase more than what is required. Ensure that excess paint is not wasted. Use it to touch up small areas.
- Place excess paint in a dry area. Make sure the lid is covered properly to prevent air from entering inside.
- Brushes and rollers used for paint purposes need to be stored in a bag (plastic) for use. Keep this bag far from light. Remove it from the bag and the brush is ready to be used again.
- While painting the ceiling area, take care that there is cross-ventilation to get rid of fumes. When the paint is drying, fumes increase. Keep some vinegar where the painting job is being carried out to get rid of paint odour.
- Floors need not be covered with plastic because there are chances of slipping. Old sheets or cloth can be used to protect floors from drips.
