Earlier ceilings were not considered a part of home decor. But now ceilings have taken shape of false ceilings and become an integral part of interiors. False ceilings are also among the hot interior trends. It is basically an artificial ceiling made below the existing ceiling. Also known as suspended ceiling, T-bar ceiling, grid ceiling or dropped ceiling, there is a gap between the actual and false ceiling. However, in commercial projects, the entire ceiling gets covered by false ceiling whereas in residential, a more sophisticated form is used. Interior designer Mohit Mishra helps you understand how false ceilings can be useful in different ways.
- If your home has high ceilings, then false ceiling can be used to play with lighting. It adds depth to the entire interior and lighting creates a different mood altogether.
- It hides the wiring used for lights or fire fighting pipes going over the ceiling.
- You can add glamour to home decor by adding some interesting carvings on the actual ceiling with the help of POP or Plaster of Paris.
- It helps in absorbing heat as well.
- False ceilings are capable of absorbing sound while making your space quieter.
Maintenance
- Clean the false ceilings on a regular basis to prevent it from becoming homes for spider webs and pests.
- Before installing the false ceiling, make sure the actual ceiling of your house is high enough otherwise false ceiling can make your house appear smaller.
