Flooring serves as the bedrock of interior design. Deciding on which flooring to use can be a tough task. Marble used to be a priority but with the decreasing quality and availability, people are shifting to other lucrative options. Parushni Aggarwal, founder & creative director, Studio Creo gives tips to help you choose the best out of vinyl and laminate flooring.
- Vinyl flooring is a combination of polyvinyl chloride and plasticizers. It is versatile, flexible and available in a wide variety of patterns and colours. As compared to other flooring materials, it is easier to install and maintain and is resistant to water and stains.
- The vinyl option is inexpensive and has a long life too. However, once fixed, the flooring is difficult to remove. Another disadvantage is that the colours fade when exposed to direct sunlight.
- Laminate flooring is made out of hardwood planks that have medium density fibre as the base and lamination on the top. They are usually installed in the high-traffic areas of the home, and if you are a pet lover, this is the flooring to opt for.
- Laminate flooring is easy to install and can be installed on top of the existing flooring and removing it will also not tamper with the floor. The flooring is 25 to 30 percent costlier than vinyl flooring and requires high maintenance.
- In both the flooring options, the advantages outweigh the risks and both serve as a great flooring option for home. Depending on the demands, a choice can be made.
