Vintage styling and designing is back in fashion. Gardens and balconies are also getting a vintage makeover these days. Harpreet Ahluwalia of Earthly Creations shares tips to create a vintage garden and change the mood of the space using the current gardening space.
- Firstly, arrange the garden in a soft, asymmetrical manner over the ordinary decor you already have. Most gardens are square in shape but for the vintage garden, create an oval or pavilion look. This ensures enough space for one to take a walk and relax.
- Aim to have more than one point of focus in the garden area. If you have a spacious garden, try to have more than one point of focus to grab attention all over your decorated space. A table seating area, a bench in a different spot and style, and a small antique sculpture, pond or fountain can be opted out for some ideas.
- Consider sectioning of parts of the garden or lawn to create small secret spaces. Mark some areas within the garden that can be hidden from view. This gives it a secluded feel.
- Choose natural, softer-looking blooming plants. Vintage style planting tends to be informal and romantic at times. You will see fewer architectural or tropical plants in the vintage garden over more natural, softer looking displays to soothe the vision.
- Aim for a slightly overgrown and crowded effect. Cottage gardening style planting tends to pack lots of plants into small spaces. Soften the unusual hard edges in your garden (such as the sides of flowerbeds) by letting plants grow over the edging.
