With festivals around the corner you must be busy decorating your home. Interior designer Sneha Samtani gives you simple tips that can be utilized to deck up your home.
- If you have a small space you can designate a small corridor or walkway to use frames. For people fond of animals or flowers, frames with animals or flowers or any other concept of interest can be hung on the wall. You can either have a cluster of frames or individual frames hungto the wall. This will give a different look altogether.
- Another option is to transform unused heavy dresses or sherwanis with lace or pearl work into cushion covers. Use them in the living room to give a rich and festive look.
- For paints, use one colour for the entire house like white or off-white so that the decor of the space stands out along the plain background. You can also choose a floral theme for blinds, bed sheets, artefacts, etc. This is very much in trend. You can also have all the accessories in one single colour like green.
- If you are bored of your furniture, you can use an abstract console with a frame of mirror on top of the wall. Another option is to use dressing mirror or rose gold mirror. This will give a classy and subtle look to your décor.
- Unused heavy dupattas can be used as rugs. Choose any colour that goes with the decor of the house and put it below the center table.
- Another decor element in trend is wallpapers. Red, orange and maroon wallpapers can add to the festive decor. It can definitely add character to your room. As wallpapers are available in different ranges and application is faster, it saves you time and is the easiest way to add colour to your festivals.
- Introduce new concepts in the house during festivals. As you will have guests in the house or if you have a big house and stay in a joint family structure, you can introduce a brass bell in the dining room to call guests for dinner. This also adds a fun element if there are kids in the house.
- Classic antique cutwork jars can be used to highlight a table. You can also keep a battery or electric tea light candle inside a cutwork jar. This gives an abstract look to the dining area.
- People fond of flowers can have orchids, tulips, daffodils, lucky bamboo or winter flower bulbs on the centre table to add colour.
- To flaunt your obsession you can create items out of unused things and use it as a food tray. You can also use floral designs or fairytale designs for a food tray. The theme of Barbie dolls, cartoons makes it interesting for kids. Classic and vintage items that go with vintage decor can be used to decorate the house during festivals.
- If there are youngsters at home, hang butterflies and flower or hang small cage above the headboard or fairy lights in different colours. This is a cost effective option as well.
