Indore is the largest city and most populated of Madhya Pradesh. Not only this, the city is famous for a lot of other things such as it has been announced as the cleanest city in India in Swachh Survekshan survey 2017. Indore is considered to be the state's educational hub, due to the presence of well-known educational institutes - Indian Institute of Management (IIM) and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). It is ahead of lot more cities in the country in terms of Wi-fi. It is country's second city that offers free wi-fi service.
Demographic profile of Indore: Indore is the most populated city in Madhya Pradesh. Indore is considered under Tier 2 cities of the country and is spread across 530 square km making it the largest city in Madhya Pradesh.
In 2011, the population of Indore is 1,994,397. The population growth rate of Indore is about 2.85%. The average literacy rate in Indore which is 87.38%, is actually higher than the national average literacy rate that is 74%. The population of the city comprise of various religions, out of which the majority comprise of Hindus, then Muslims, Jains and others.
Infrastructure in Indore:
Air:- Indore has fairly good air connectivity service via Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport which is 8km from the city. The airport also serves as an important connecting point for international cargos as well. Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport is well connected with all parts of the country via major airlines that include Jet Airways, Kingfisher, Indian Airlines and much more.
Rail:- Indore's railway station falls under Ratlam division of Western Railways. Both broad gauge and meter gauge railway tracks operate through Indore. There are direct trains to Indore from all the metros and to other major parts of the country such as Patna, Jaipur Jammu, Trivandrum, Ahmedabad to name a few. The four main stations that work within the city are Lakshmibai Nagar, Rajendra Nagar, Saifee Nagar and Lokmanya Nagar.
Road:- There are various national as well as state highways that include NH3, 59A, NH59, NH86 that makes the city easily connected and accessible with all parts of the country. The major state highways No 27 and 31 also pass through the city.
The Economy of Indore: Indore is known as the financial capital of the state Madhya Pradesh as it is home to the state's stock exchange which is the third oldest stock exchange of the country. It is the commercial hub for goods and services. Major industrial areas in the city are present at Indore Special Economic Zone, Pithampur, Sanwer Industrial belt, several IT Parks among others. Pithampur is called as the Detroit of India. Along with the IT majors such as Infosys, TCS, several other mid and small sizes IT firms have also an eye on Indore for their expansions.
Education: As mentioned above Indore is the education sector of Madhya Pradesh. It is home for one of the oldest boarding school in the country - The Daly College along with many other renowned schools and colleges. It is the first city which has both IIM and IIT.
Culture of Indore : The city celebrates almost all the festivals that are celebrated around the country such as Holi, Janmashtami, Teej, Navratri, Dussehra, Ramzan, Bhaidooj, Eid, Gudi Padwa, Christmas and much more. Mahashivratri is celebrated in a huge way in Indore. Rang Panchami is one of the important festivals that is celebrated in Indore. It is celebrated for five days after holi in a distinct style of Indorians.
Along with traditional, the city also has rock or metal music culture. Nicotine is one of the earliest and famous bands of the city.
Places to visit:
  • Rajwada ~ Palace dates back about two centuries ago. Built by the Holkars of Maratha Empire, this historical palace comprised of seven storey and is situated near Chhatris.
  • Yeshwant ~ Club was established in 1934. It is a part of the Maratha legacy of the Holkar rulers and spread across 14 acres of land. Initially, it was opened for royal members of the Holkar state.
    But later it was opened for the business elite members as well.
  • Maheshwar ~ is famous for handloom weaving since the 15th century and is home to country's handloom fabric traditions. It is also known for palaces, forts and temples
  • Mandu or Mandavgarh ~ is known for its natural beauty, palaces and forts. It's a ruined city of Dhar district and is 99 km away from Indore.
  • PatalPani ~ Waterfall has located 35 km from Indore and is famous for its scenic beauty. The waterfall is 300 feet high. It is popular among people as a picnic and trekking spot. It gets almost dry during summers but the water flow increased during the rainy season.
Indore as the smart city: Under PM Modi's smart city mission, Indore has been selected to be developed as one of the 100 smart cities by the Ministry of Urban Development. In addition to this, Indore has successfully qualified in the first phase that is it has been included in the first 20 cities to become the smart cities. Indore ranked eleventh in the first 20 cities list. The government had initiated participation and engagement from the citizens of Indore in the smart city mission which was thoroughly appreciated.

The Smart city project focuses on developing various sectors that includes Infrastructure, Finance, Transportation, Governance, Water Management, Energy & Waste Management, Health & Education, and Heritage.   • Some major infrastructure projects for the city include the Indore Bus Rapid Transit or the Ahilya Path project, the 250 ft wide super corridor that connect airport with MR 10. MR 12 road is coming up to ease out the traffic on MR 10. All these plans will boost the real estate sector in a huge way.
