- Dedicated portal for affordable homes: Housingforall.com was inaugurated by Durga Shekhar Mishra, Secretary, Ministry of Urban Housing and Development, on January 14 2020. The portal aims to list and provide details of all the affordable housing projects that have received the occupancy certificate.
- One crore mark: The total number of units that have been sanctioned under PMAY has crossed the one crore mark. About 30 lac units are completed, 57 lac units are under construction. The centre aims to extend the monetary help of Rs 1.6 lac crore, and about Rs, 60,000 crores of the same have been disbursed.
- UP stays ahead: When it comes to the construction of the affordable homes, UP stays ahead in the race. The state has completed 12,44,675 Beneficial Led Housing (BLH) and 13,41,550 affordable housing units.
- Delhi is working on different terms: The capital city has not yet submitted the proposal for PMAY. However, they are in work for starting Mukhya Mantri Awas Yojana. The central government has asked the residents of Delhi to make their interest known to the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board, and Delhi government should forward it to the HC for the approval.
- The demand: Around 100 lac homes are in demand out of which around 80 lac homes have been sanctioned and 20 lacs of which are completed. The centre has asked the state administrations to give them the estimation of how many units they will need to build more so they can sanction the finance accordingly.
- Not good news for Orissa and Chandigarh: Since the officials have not abided the guidelines of the PMAY scheme, almost 2500 beneficiaries will not be able to enjoy the benefit of the affordable housing in Orissa. There has been a delay in the completion of the PMAY projects in Chandigarh due to the different land price quoted and paid.
- New technologies: Around 6,368 models are set to be completed with the latest technology and request for proposals (RFP) have already been published. The agencies who will complete the construction within the given time limit will be awarded USD 20,000.
The MIG I and MIG II homes under PMAY are now more prominent. Those earning an annual income of Rs 6-12 lacs can apply for MIG I homes which are 33 percent bigger than the previous proposal. The MIG II units are also more prominent with 120 sq m than 110 sq m.
