The apartment by Anu and Prashant Chauhan of Zero9 architecture and design studio has a rustic and old-world charm infused with unique antique artifacts. The architects have transformed this space to express the distinct needs and interests of the family members living here.
1. To give an ethnic feel to the living room, the flooring has been done in Jaisalmer stone. Another interesting feature here is the rug in Mexican design and decor accessories in ceramics and brass. Carved statues and murals against the textured white walls and wooden shelves complete the ethnic look.
2. A beautiful wooden swing placed at the entrance area hangs from the ceiling and has supports with metal carvings on it. The flooring is etched with beautiful frangipani leaves and the Buddha and white cow statues add an Indian touch to it. Arched openings to the kitchen from this area give a unique feel to this space.
3. Inspired by Batman, the son’s bedroom has a huge cutout of the superhero that is back-lit. This space with its elevated platform and leather paneling looks truly impressive.
4. Here, a cosy bed done in Parsi style attached to the window makes for a perfect reading corner.
5. As a reflection of Mediterranean style, the entrance of the kitchen has an arch shape. The colour palette in ochre, green, brown and blue complements the white background and creates colourful corners that segregate spaces. To add a fresh look, the kitchen space has cabinets in real wood, bright colour tiles, wooden jaalis and stone platform.
6. The master bedroom and bath has a distinct mood with a modern, clean and contemporary treatment given to it. White has been used generously here to make it look spacious apart from brown wardrobe shutters with mirrors.
