PMAY is an ambitious project that aims at providing housing for all by 2020. Since the Modi government is back in power, it is expected that the project will get its share due to attention.

We discuss all the details regarding PMAY- Urban:

Going at a good pace: Minister, Hardeep Singh stated that the PMAY project has been going on at a satisfactory pace and the construction will be completed before the deadline. So far, 88.16 lacs units have been approved, and 51.46 lac units have been grounded.

Data released by the government shows that 26.49 lac units have been completed and 24 lac units have been occupied. For the same reason, the Centre has released Rs 52,212 crore to speed up the project and complete it on time.

Angikaar campaign:

Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry has launched the Angikaar campaign. Under this campaign, all the PMAY beneficiaries will be brought within the fold of central schemes such as Ujjawala and Ayushmaan Bharat schemes. The campaign will launch on October 2nd and will end on December 10th. The campaign will hold the door to door activities at city level nationwide.

Social audits of PMAY project:

Now only Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, Mizoram, and Manipur are the only states that have submitted the plan for social audit of the PMAY projects.

The exercise aims to understand the progress and impact of the Centre’s scheme on the beneficiaries and stakeholders through a rigorous process that aims at collecting the information at every step of the construction process and taking the feedback from the stakeholders.

Project news from different states and cities:

Pradesh is leading the way when it comes to the construction of affordable homes. The state has completed the construction of 12, 44,675 Beneficiary Led Housing and 13, 41,550 Affordable Housing in partnership houses so far.

Hasn’t seen any proposal from the government for the construction of affordable homes. The Delhi government aims at building homes under Mukhya Mantri Niwas Yojana, and according to the reports, the work for the same is underway.

Orissa, around 2500 beneficiary has not received their second installments of the funds in Jajpur and Vysanagar as the officials failed to abide by the guidelines. The beneficiaries that do not have their information filled will be able to enjoy the benefits in the next round of the compensation.

Has been considerable delay in the progress of PMAY in Chandigarh. Four years on and the authorities still haven’t been able to land for nearly 10,132 flats for PMAY.

Dedicated PMAY-U app:

February this year, the government launched the PMAY-U app, which will help the beneficiaries to upload the picture of their completed homes. The data will then be scrutinized at the state, and central level and selected beneficiaries will be awarded at the state level in a special ceremony on the anniversary of PMAY.

Reward and recognition:

Reward the states for their hard work on PMAY; the housing ministry has institutes awards for implementation and innovation. This will encourage healthy competition among the states.

Technologies:

The government aims to finish the construction of PMAY before 2022. About 6,368 models will use newer technologies and Request for Proposal (RFP) has already been published. The agencies that will complete the project within the time frame will be awarded USD20, 000 each.

Why should one consider investing in PMAY?

For MIG-I and MIG-II homes for PMAY are now more prominent. In the revised plan, those who fall into the category of MIG- I (income group between 6- 12 lacs) will be eligible to apply for homes that are now 33 percent bigger than the previous ones. The size modification is also seen in MIG- II groups. Apart from these, there are certain GST and tax benefits for investing in PMAY.
