A popular saying which fits the word Eco – "Working with nature, not against it".There are a variety of ways to make a more self-sustaining environment that not only reduces waste, but is more reliant on renewable sources of energy as well. Here are some of the basics to get you started with your own eco-friendly garden :

  1. Go local
    The first path for going eco-friendly is to go native! Involve local material for paving , fencing , include plants that already fit your climate will thrive with less care and stress.Start with the planning process for your development. Create zone dividing it into seasonal divisions . The results will save you time, effort, and replacement expense.
  2. Organic choice
    Though chemical fertilizers and pesticides enhances not just the growth of the plant but gives raise to the number of flowers and fruits it produced for a short period of time. Using techniques like companion planting will reduce the need of fertilizers and pesticides. Utilization of non-GMO(genetically modified organism) and organic manure, compost and mulch can also work as a growth factor for fruits, vegetables and flowers.
  3. Solar Lights
    The garden is an open space with plenty of room for solar panels. Once installed, these solar powered lights can reduce the electrical consumption and involved cost by recharging the battery during daytime. Using these lights can give the garden an eco-friendly look with suffice light. There should always be flashlights nearby in case of low intensity or power failure.
  4. Rain Water Barrels
    A consideration amount of water is required by the garden for its full nourishment. Rain water barrels collect rain water from the roofs and other parts of home where it gets collected and store them in the barrels for later use. It can be configured with mechanical sprinkler or hose for watering a specific part of the garden without much human interaction.
  5. Compost Bin
    Compost Bin is a great way to deal with not just garden wastages but also waste, scrapings and leftovers produced from the kitchen.The compost bin is available in different sizes and one which fits in the garden should be taken. It can be decorated as per the surroundings for a proper appearance. The waste is added in it with a span for its decomposition and later on the manure can be spread on the garden beds.
  6. Eco-Friendly Furniture
    These types of furniture are free from chemical treatments and entices itself as a part of the garden. These type of furniture require more care than the usual ones and should be only exposed in the garden during the sunny season as the humidity or direct contact of water can rot it and make it soft which can deform it.
  7. Natural Features
    A garden with local plants and trees in it instead of exotic ones requires less care and attention. These local varieties of plants have a steady growth even as the conditions are favourable. The available rocks, trees and plants can be set up in such a pattern that it gives an aesthetic looks to the visitors while having as low maintenance. Another feature which can be added is a small water body in it which will keep the fertility and water level of soil in check while giving an element of sophisticated view.
  8. Recycle and reuse material
    Using recycle material is another great way to go green. Recycling and reusing of materials give you the chance to exercise your creativity , conserve the environment to a bit and find your style within the design.
  9. Encourage wildlife
    Attracting birds , butterflies, earthworms and other wildlife creatures in your garden not only brighten up your garden , but also helps in pest control system.
