- Brass is made up of a mixture of copper and zinc, therefore as soon as it comes in contact with the air it start its oxidation and its brightness starts falling. To protect the brass from oxidation, it starts to lose its glow. To protect it against oxidation it is good to have a thin coat of lacquer on it.
- This protective layer also protects it from the use of wrong cleaning product. Homemade Cleaner should be used to maintain the brightness of the brass.
- Take salt, white vinegar and flour in equal quantity. Mix the salt and white vinegar in warm water and make a thick paste. Now apply this paste to the brass items, completely rubbing it with light hands like a layer.
- Now take 5 gallons of hot water in a bucket and add 1 cup vinegar and 10 tablespoons of salt in it and put all the brass items inside this bucket. All items should be drowned completely in water. Leave it like this for 2 hours.
- Now cleaning agent product like Bar Keepers Friend will also be used. It is available in both powder and liquid form. After taking things out, rub the bar-keeper's friend on each item with light hand. Shining will be visible.
- Apart from this, salt and lemon are also better homemade cleaners. This is an effective solution for a much lost glow brass item. Cut lemon into two parts and remove its seeds. Take out half lemon juice and add salt to it. Rub this mixture with light hands on the surface of brass items.
- Do you know linseed oil can also return the brass's glow? After cleaning the dust from the brass, put hot soapy water on its surface. After that wash with clean water and dry with soft cloth. Now heat the linseed oil slightly and put some drops on the soft cloth and clean the brass with that cloth. After removal of stains, remove excess oil as well. The effect will look itself.
- Also use isopropyl alcohol for light marks on the brass. Take this alcohol in a scrubbing sponge and clean brass with it.
- In addition, clean the brass items once in a week with low ammonia. Everytime after cleaning, a layer of olive oil will protect the brass from oxidation.
