Flooring today commands as much attention as the rest of the décor. Latest trends show that wood is the preferred popular flooring material. Here are some stylish patterns and ideas by Mr. Aashish Poojari, Director, Havwoods India, that you can create with wooden flooring to add a new dimension to the décor of your home.
- Straight: as the name suggests, planks are installed straight from wall to wall. If a room is small, lay along the longest wall and voila! The room appears bigger!
- Diagonal: similar to the straight pattern but with a twist. Here, the boards are laid from corner to corner. The diagonal pattern adds a lot to the interest value of the room. It, of course, requires skill and precision to carry this out.
- Random: this design is created using planks of varying widths. Install one row each of the different widths and repeat. So while the pattern is consistent, the width of each row differs. This idea has a solid visual impact with minimum variation.
- Herringbone: it's a timeless classic pattern. It was used to pave the famous Roman roads and has great dimensional stability. Here, the end of one plank is installed 90 degrees to the length of another giving the flooring a zig-zag look. This pattern is perfect for large areas.
- Chevron: herein, the edges of two planks are cut to a 45 degree angle and are fitted together forming a 'V' shape. This pattern will give your flooring a wavy look and will peg your style quotient a notch higher.
- Parquet: this is a broad term for any geometric pattern done with wooden blocks. Parquet looks great when done intricately over a large area. It is a mosaic done with pieces of wood and lends a formal elegance and character especially to spacious living and dining rooms.
- Brick: this pattern takes inspiration from brick masonry. Here, small rectangles of wood are arranged in a brick-like fashion parallel to the walls. It can be done across an entire floor or just a section that needs demarcation for e.g. the dining area in a living room.
- Tiles:these are readymade design tiles that can easily and quickly be installed. It is an ideal way to save on time and labour and get a perfect floor.
