8 things to make your door and entrance vastu-perfect

According to vastu shastra, says expert SK Mehta, the entrance gate of any place plays a prominent role in prosperity. Read how the direction of entrance doors and the signs and symbols used on the doors can bring positive changes in your life…
- According to vastu, the four directions and the sub-directions are considered appropriate for the entrance door. For any plot, an entrance in the centre is good. This holds good even if the plot faces all directions except South.
- There are eight sub-directions, namely: North North-East and East North-East, East South-East and South South-East, West North-West and North North-West, West South-West and South South-West. For an entrance door, only East North-East, North North-East, South South-East and West South-East are recommended. One must consult a specialist before constructing any door in the sub-directions.
- While constructing doors at your home or office, ensure that no more than two doors are in a single line.
- Never use dark colours for a door. Colours like black and dark red are strict no-no. Instead, you can choose between light wooden shades and light colours (off-white or white-green).
- Keep your entrance door as single or double as per your requirement, but ensure that it opens inside and not outside.
- You can use Indian rosewood (sheesham) wood for doors. Nowadays, material options include fibre and glass, which are okay for offices. When it comes to homes, you can use these materials in the East-North and North-East direction, but not for doors in the South-West direction.
- While deciding the size of the door, ensure that gate of the premises is larger than the door to the house itself.

Instead, you can choose between light wooden shades and light colours (off-white or white-green). - See that the door does not make any sound while opening or closing; this bodes ill for the peace of the house and causes rifts in relationships. So oil and grease the doors regularly. People use certain items to keep the house safe from evil or increase positivity. Vastu, too, prescribes some such objects:
- Sea-shell torans to reduce vastudosha
- A horse shoe and a swastika sign to bring positivity
- Lord Ganesha's idol or an image placed towards the right side of the entrance door for success
- Refrain from using mirror and glass
- You can use wind chimes on the door or the windows which are placed in the North or East direction

Hi Hitesh, Vastu expert (SK Mehta) gives the following remedies to get rid of vastu doshas: Entrance door in the South West direction is not considered good. It is compulsory to make a dehleej on the door. Outside the main door gate you can have either an elephant statue or photograph or painting or two-side photograph of elephant. The reason being this corner needs to be heavy and elephant is heavy. Make a seating area outside this gate. You can keep a bench etc. for seating arrangement. Thanks for writing in. Team Home Tips
