Of all the rooms in your house, the bedroom is the most private one. Therefore, it is but fitting that this space should be cosy and intimate, allowing you to be you. Architect Annkur Khosla gives you simple ideas and tips using light as a medium to create a private sanctuary.
1. Lights add charm and glow to any room, and the bedroom is no exception. Having LED strips on the underside and backside of the bed is an excellent trick. This will bring uniform lighting and glow to your room. The light emanating from under the bed gives an impression that light is flowing through once it is dark outside.
2. Strip lights can also be used to frame the TV – which will then act as a light fixture when not in use.
3. Create a reverse cove at the ceiling. This feature puts the spotlight on the wall, leaving a glowing effect in the entire room. The beauty of cove lighting is that mundane light fixtures are hidden away from view.

4. Adjustable and dim lamps give a cosy feel to the bedroom. Use dimmer switches and play with the intensity of the light. When it is time for you to relax, dim lights are preferable. This will act as a relaxing ambience and also sets the mood for the next day.
5. You can also have lights spilling from other areas of the house – such as terrace, gardens, landscapes, etc – directly into your bedroom. This gives an inviting air to the room.
6. Desk and floor lamps in calm and neutral colours heighten the air of intimacy by creating pools of light, leaving some part of the bedroom in darkness.
7. Chromatherapy (therapy using coloured light) is also quite popular these days. Though you can create different moods, most people prefer soothing tones.
8. Glass programmable wall lighting behind the bed gives a dream-like effect, calming your senses.
