Colors play a very important role in interiors. You may decorate your house with your favorite colors, or with the colors according to vaastu, but did you know that every color has a unique purpose? Every color has its own aesthetics and rules as well. Let's hear all about color schemes, complementary colors, and aesthetics from Architect IshanNatu…

  1. Monochromatic color scheme:
According to 'Monochromatic Color Scheme Theory, the interior scheme is dominated by a single color scheme which can be implemented on furniture and wall; as well as decor by using different shades of single color by adding tint of black and white into it. This creates a simple and elegant theme for the entire area, keeping it subtle yet elegant. Such single color paints can be used for office, restaurants, art gallery and even your living room area if you're an artistic person and love creativity.
  2. Complementary colors in interior:
Just the way we used a single color and it's shades in monochrome theme, the Complimentary Color Theme deals with the balance of two tones of colors, which play a very important role in creating a soothing ambiance in the interiors. You can use colors like red and yellow, yellow and green, etc.—but the latest trend includes using a vibrant color with a dull color—like red with grey—which can create a sharpness and gives a rustic touch to the interior.
  3. Colors as per Vaastu:
Vaastu also plays an important role in deciding what color should your room be. There are different vaastu rules for wall paints, furniture, color shades, etc. which decide which room's which wall should be painted in what color. For example, people who are strongly affected by 'shani' should apply dark blue tone to their rooms, while people having a strong influence of 'guru' should use gold or bronze tones. We can also take expert views according to the vaastu.
  4. Colors as per Climatology:
Did you know that even climate affects what kind of colors you're using or wearing? People often tend to forget climatology as an important element, as climate always influences your mind with what colors you like during a particular weather or season. For example, people living in tropical terrains are more influenced by greenery and woods which is reflected in tone of color of theirdecors. People belonging to coastal areas with healthy weather use pastel colors in decor like in Goa or Pondicherry, you'll find many bright colored walls.
  5. Colors as rhythm in interiors:
Color scheme can also create a rhythmic influence in your interiors like the color in tapestry, curtains andfurniturecan complement each other by creating a rhythmic flow in design.
  6. Colors by textures:
Color texture paints is an common practice in today's date , which also has a capacity of background creation and fillersas design element on your walls, which is comparatively cost saving and attractive. Various patterns in the form of geometric shapes, abstract shapes, or even natural look with flowers and petals are available these days.
  7. Type of paints:
Color options are always influenced by the type of material chosen by you for decor , like for glossy finishes PU or duco paint are always appreciated, similarly;hammer tone can help creating a different texture.
