Anxiety is an impenetrable emotion, which is very difficult to vanquish. One in every five individuals lives with common anxiety issues. However, the ambience plays a substantial role in the well being of an individual. Making a few ornamental changes can help in keeping nervous feelings at bay. Such aura will soothe any anxiety related problems and flourish the intellectual well-being. KuntalAggarwal, Founder & Design Head, Resaiki Interiors shares seven interior designing hacks that encourage a serene and soothing environment, making an individual feeling calm.

  1. Open spaces - Feeling claustrophobic is a trigger of anxiety. Creating an open and airy space in such a situation is recommended. Always ensure that there should be sufficient space between the items of furniture to create a pleasant environment. But, embellishing every corner of the room would look clumsy. Adorn your room with some amiable decor items which are pleasing to your eyes. Get rid of the stuff that no longer has a purpose in your life. Sorting and decluttering them will naturally subside your stress level with time.
  2. Bring nature inside - Plants and flowers have a positive effect on anxiety. Indoor plants are immensely used to reduce stress, boost up the productivity and mood. Flowers are lively, fragrant and add beauty to the room. One can also hang the plant basket from the ceiling. An interaction with indoor greenery can reduce stress issues. Thus, it is advisable to decorate your home with foliage.
  3. Comfortable and lightweight bed - Getting inadequate sleep is one of the contributing factors of anxiety. The level of cosiness and calmness of your bed is of vital importance. Look for a quality mattress which is lovely to touch and feel, as it can improve your sleeping patterns.
  4. Play with the colour game - Colors have a significant impact on the people; however, each person reacts differently for particular colours. For some, red can be angry and loud, while to others, it feels comforting and warm. So try out for a soft blush option instead of bright colours to calm your nerves.
  5. Proper lighting - Light can amplify our feelings, both positive and negative. Natural light is a rich source of vitamin D, which is very crucial for a human body. Exposing yourself to natural light is an excellent way to reduce stress levels. Dim lights can do wonders to make a home feel cosy and inviting. Use lamps, candles and fairy lights to create a soothing aura.
  6. Stimulate your senses - Every home must have something tactile in nature to stimulate the individual senses, so that they can connect with their surroundings. One of the easiest ways to do so is to decorate your home with different textures of furniture. For example, exposed brickwork would provide a perfect contrast to mushy furniture.
  7. Surround yourself with uplifting images - Surround yourself with the photos that make you feel relaxed and happy. A picture of a landscape that makes you remember a happy moment of your life can brighten up your mood. It is good to have great imagery in every room, but pay extra attention to your bedroom.
Such hacks will cleanse your mind, help you to channel a positive mindset and make your home a happy place to live. Thus, opting for a slight deviation in the home decor can alleviate stress and all other associated symptoms.
