In Indian apartments, the dressing area is usually a part of a bedroom as we don’t have the luxury of separate spaces for wardrobes and dressing. In most modern apartments today, only the master bedroom is spacious enough to have a dressing table, whereas the other bedrooms are slightly smaller. The most important part of the dressing area is the mirror, followed by storage for your beauty items and lastly a chair or stool if space permits. Shami Goregaoker, Project Manager and design strategist, GA design, puts forth several innovative ways a dressing unit can be accommodated despite the space constraint.
- There are many options available for readymade vanity tables. One is to tuck it away into a little corner of the room.
- Another option is a narrow wall-mounted shelf with mirror above and drawers underneath, a small table with a soft stool stowed away under it or a simple contemporary desk with a mirror which can be used as a writing desk whenever required.
- You don’t need to be restricted by the choice of readymade dressers. Customize your own to suit the design and décor of your room.
- The most common practice has been to have a full mirror on one of the shutters of the wardrobe with storage behind it.
- A full length mirror could be fixed on the bathroom door from the inside and your wash basin counter could double up as your vanity unit.
- The tv unit opposite your bed could also be used as a dressing unit with a stylish full length mirror placed elegantly on or next to it.
- Bedside tables or a chest of drawers could also double up as dressing units. Small spaces can be used optimally with clever planning and the expertise of an interior designer.
