Natural stones are used to enhance the beauty of residential and commercials buildings. Though they are heavy, expensive and require treatment for improved longevity, stones enjoy a wide variety of applications -- from wall coverings and facade treatments, to gardens and counter-tops. Interior designer Deeksha Khatree tells us about six types of this eco-friendly building material...
1Granite:
This stone is resistant to bacteria and is easy to clean. Therefore, it is mainly used in kitchen counters.
2Sandstone:
This is available in different colours such as white, yellow, reddish brown, grey and red. It is used to decorate gardens, terraces and interior applications.
3Marble:
This is a commonly used stone and is available in a wide spectrum of colours. Marbles are used in bathroom, flooring of foyers, rooms, fireplaces and window sills.
4Limestone:
This is a soft stone that can be used for counter tops and wall. It is cheaper than granite. Kota and Cudappa stones, which enjoy considerable popularity in interiors, are a form of limestone.
5Travertine:
This stone falls under limestone category and is popular as a flooring and wall cladding material.
6Quartz:
It is available in bulk and can be used on the facades in the form of carving.
