Buying the right curtain can be a difficult call for many homeowners. From selecting the right fabric to the colour combinations, its length and much more, there are so many choices to make. Architect Onal Kothari mentions few pointers to help you pick the perfect window treatment for your bedroom.

  1. Placement: The mood of your space is defined by how you treat the windows. Firstly take a look at the shape of the window. The study area in the bedroom may require more lighting. So, choose the curtains accordingly.
  2. Fabric: Ensure you pick the right fabric for your curtains. Some fabrics like velvet and suede are natural insulators. Also, lighter fabrics allow more natural light into the room. On the other hand, heavier fabrics are good options to block natural light.
  3. Patterns and colours: Right patterns and colours add personality to your room. Ensure that colours are not similar to your walls. As far as patterns are concerned, the market provides several options to choose from – geometrical shapes, motifs, tropical experiences, pop art or simply solid coloured ones. You can select the ones that suit your interior style.
  4. Style: Hanging the curtains in a stylish way is as important as making the right choice in fabric and colours. The way you hang your curtains will define the ambiance of your home. You can either hang it in elegant styles to embrace your Victorian interior or drop it straightway for a modern feel.
  5. Length and width: Length and width of a curtain plays an important role in creating an illusion as far as the size of the room is concerned. The curtain should start an inch above the window and half an inch above the floor. You can make it hang 4 – 5 inch higher than the window depending on the room height.
  6. Accessories: Accessories make your curtains stand out and enhance the look of your decor. It complements the colour, style and setting of your room.
