The New Year is right around the corner, and there are some exciting home interior design trends coming up in 2018. Sudeep Kolte, VP Sales & Marketing, Saint Gobain India Pvt Ltd – Gyproc Business shares few ways through which you can jazz up your home.
- A well-lit home: A well-lit room always creates an inviting environment for all. Living rooms are ideal for good lighting, for guests and family members to come together, relax and chat. While the amount of lighting depends on the needs of home owners, a common misconception is for the entire room to be lit up. This could result in the room being overly bright and may not be pleasing to the eyes.
- Natural light: A quick assessment of your living room always helps to understand the source of natural light. Using more glass-based windows and doors always help the room soak in more day light. Frosted or tinted glasses are good options that allow more light whilst helping you maintain your privacy. By removing heavy and dark curtains automatically helps the room soak up precious natural light. Thick window treatments and light weight fabric curtains further help preserve natural light.
- Ceilings and lighting: A well-lit ceiling can make any space come alive. Creating an ambience with designer ceilings is a quick solution that helps reflect and diffuse light well, reducing the need for artificial lighting. Ceiling lights can be categorized into three sub-categories: recessed lights, flush lights and suspended lights. Recessed lights are ideal for low ceiling areas and can be built into the ceiling façade. This allows them to brighten a space, without being entirely visible. If you are looking for easier and quicker lighting options, you could try flush lights or track lights.
- Lighting control: Another good option is to create a combination of different lights and to establish multiple points in order to better control the lighting of the room. While both fluorescent lights and screw-in LEDs are good options, dimmers are most essential when it comes to the lighting of multipurpose rooms. Dimmers reduce energy use and increase bulb life.
- Creating space: To create a spacious feel, placing mirrors along the walls of the room helps give the effect of a larger space. If you have a window in the room, adding a mirror on the wall, close to or the same size as the window gives the effect of a bigger room.
- Minimalism is the new look: While new patterns, colours and textures will continue to be in style, when in doubt, minimalism always works. Indian homes are full of vibrant colours but sometimes one or two simple, low-tone shades can work wonders for your walls. To enhance the aesthetics, you can always accessorize by adding objects such as paintings, rugs, chandeliers, etc.
