Mittesh Gaiwala, Director & Creative Head, GreenLands, gives his expertise on factors to keep in mind to ensure plants have healthy growth.
- Planting around trees can be a challenge as plants may not survive because the roots of trees may damage surrounding plants.
- Ideally one should use Hume pipes (cement pipes) and plant the trees in it, so that the roots of such trees do not disturb other plants and foliages planted around them.
- Before planting a tree, you should dig a pit 2x2x3 ft. deep. This ensures the roots grow well.
- Use fine red soil, farm yard manure / vermicompost mixture (ratio 1:1).
- Add micro nutrients / fertilizers in the mixture properly so that the shrubs / foliages planted is repaired quickly (the roots get a shock due to transplanting or repotting).
- Plant trees that do not require lot of water. This ensures that other plants surrounding it will grow better and healthy.
