Ethnic fabrics enhance any home décor because of its rich heritage and culture. Due to the diversity of traditions, each having its identity, designs can be adapted to suit any décor. Ethnic fabrics represent varied weaves, designs, colours, styles etc. Sujata Mehta, Director, Zeba Design, gives simple tips to enhance your décor using fabrics.
- Create a vivid look for your bedroom with a dramatic backdrop. For this, hang a valance from the ceiling behind your bed. The fabric can be a mix of Ikat and Bandhini patchwork.
- Use similar colour palette and designs in different scales for different products. If using paisley motif, use big motifs for the curtains, medium size for the bed spread and smallest for the cushion cover.
- Transform a plain hallway into a decorated space using a simple dhurrie that has bright colours of spices on the border design.
- You can create an interesting look by recycling old furnishings. Use old batik curtains to upholster the chair. The bed spread motifs can be used as a patch work on the curtain. Ensure that the colours, textures and other elements that surround it are in sync.
- Place an old trunk against a textured, distressed wall; the bed can have a linen or silk canopy, creating an illusion of a four poster bed.
