Comfort is the main factor to be kept in mind while designing room for the elders. Interior designer Deeksha Khatree lists simple factors to keep in mind so that elders can have free movement without facing any issues in their bedroom.
- The elderly room should always be located on the main level of your home to ensure easier access to it and other rooms.
- Avoid low height or fancy beds - get rid of low height bed and choose a bed wherein in a sitting position their feet touches the floor. The bed height can be between 26 to 34 inches, depending on the height of your parent.
- Choose minimal pieces to hold their daily needs like a bedside table, a chest of drawers and reading chairs, depending on their habits.
- Make sure the hardware on doors, windows, drawers, wardrobes should work smoothly with minimum efforts to use them.
- Incorporate warm colours in their room. Shades of green or yellow are advisable. This will help them feel happy and enthusiastic.
