Leather furniture spells luxury apart from offering comfort. Architect Mrunmayi Wadwekar gives simple tips on how to maintain leather furniture.
- Real leather requires specific material for maintenance. Therefore invest in good quality cleaning materials to maintain the life of your leather product.
- Leatherette is fairly easy to clean and can be cleaned using a wet cloth and dishwashing liquid at best.
- Avoid keeping leather or leatherette items in harsh sun for durability reasons.
- Heavily humid conditions like Indian monsoon tend to spoil real leather and promote fungus growth. In such conditions, dry out the leather without exposing it to any heat treatment. Also, a leather conditioning coat is advisable before every monsoon.
- Wiping with an oil coat will make the leather or leatherette shine and avoid getting moisture soaked in.
