5 tips to integrate furniture with interiors

Furniture is a very important aspect of any interior. It is extremely important to integrate furniture with interiors. Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Monga, Chairman, Department of Architecture, Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram University of Science & Technology (A Government of Haryana University), Murthal (Sonipat), Haryana, gives tips to integrate furniture with interiors.
- The following issues should be taken into consideration while selecting furniture for interiors:
a) User profile
b) Age of user
c) Limitations of the user
d) Behaviour of the user - It is extremely important to freeze the basic furniture layout of a house at the designing stage itself. Keeping in view the above mentioned aspects, rest of the issues can be looked at after the completion of the construction.
- A common man finds it difficult to visualize the spaces at the designing stage. The preliminary exercise will help them to understand the process of interior designing and promote their involvement in the entire process.
- Keeping in consideration the user profile, age and behaviour, the interiors can be finalized based on the following factors:
* Type of activities to be performed influences the selection of furniture
* Selection of furniture has direct relation with the age of the user
* Age of user has direct relation with colour of the furniture
* User profile, age, behaviour, type and colour of the furniture are interrelated
Examples: The design, colour of furniture of bedroom of an aged person and a youngster can’t be same as it’s directly related with human psychology. - Without considering the above mentioned factors, it’s difficult to create the desired environment. In a nut shell, careful thought is must in the beginning to create a desired ambience.
