Planning to organize a weekend party in your backyard? With several decorative gazebo options available, it is necessary to get yourself acquainted with this landscape element. Harpreet Singh Narang, Managing Director, Miri Piri Sheds & Structures Pvt Ltd, gives simple tips to make your gazebo purchase simple.
- Location: Firstly, by definition itself, a gazebo is a small structure that gives a wide view of the surrounding area. Therefore location becomes very important. The best way to finalize the location is to mark the space you have chosen and lie down. If the view is right, this may be the spot. Then, you have to ensure that the selected spot is flat. Another factor is that water should not accumulate in this space because uneven surface will damage the sturdiness of the gazebo.
- Shape and size: The shape and size of the gazebo is another important factor. Keep in mind the prominent features in your garden and surrounding before deciding on the shape. This is necessary to ensure the gazebo does not look out of place. Gazebos are available in different shapes such as square, rectangle, oval, etc. Opt for square or octagonal shape if you intend to use the gazebo for decorative purpose or just sit on a bench in it. If there will be couple of people seated in the gazebo, go for rectangle or oval shape. As far as the size is concerned, it should be big enough to grab attention. Enquire with the salesman about the size as sometimes the roof overhangs are not specified in the dimensions. If you plan to place the gazebo near the house or tall structure, overhangs could be plan breakers if not accounted at the beginning.
- Material options: There are different material options such as wood, stone, vinyl, etc. Vinyl gazebos do not require much maintenance and are costly as compared to wooden gazebos. The stone option adds style to the garden. If your budget permits and you have ample space, you can opt for a stone gazebo.
- Aesthetic appeal: Gazebos come with different options that increase its visual appeal. Some have different window options such as sliding windows, louvres, folding windows and bay windows. There are different options such as metal, plastic, lattice, etc. for roofing as well. Choose the appropriate option that matches the surrounding.
- Flooring: Gazebos are available with and without flooring. You can either make your own flooring and install your gazebo on an existing slab or patio, composite or wooden deck, or purchase one which comes with its own floor.
