Sujata Mehta, Director, Zeba Design, gives useful inputs to embrace the ethnic theme.
- Ethnic fabrics are inspired by rich hues and vibrant accents that look beautiful in a neutral setting. Colours are an absolute must in this theme. The lovely spice colours of mustard, red hot chilli, cinnamon play an integral role in putting this theme together.
- Following the global trends, decorating differently is the new mantra for interiors with contemporary setting. Mix and match of designs and colours, resulting in an interesting cocktail, is another trend. This is the reason there will always be enough demand for ethnic textiles.
- Any room can be done in an ethnic theme. You need to take a look at the space in totality (wall paint, flooring, polish, wall art etc.) to introduce the ethnic décor in a coordinated manner to work with the rest of the décor.
- The magic in putting together any look is in the way we can play with the different fabrics, textures, colours, designs and not in the qualities of the fabrics alone. The idea here is to blend all these different elements to create a special theme for the special occasion.
- The looks created with ethnic fabrics do not necessarily have to be the invention of any single look. You can put together different looks of diverse cultures in an aesthetic manner. All of this can translate into a beautiful and warm expression of the richness of ethnic textiles, in the new age with the products still retaining much of the traditional charm and originality, reflecting the different moods and cultures, regardless of the environment it is used.
