With growing population and shrinking living spaces, we have to be content with 'that little open hanging thing called balcony', in our apartments. So, here are 5 simple tips to decorate your balcony by Mahima Richard Thomas Pinto, Founder, Balcony Makeovers
- Keep your plants elevated on shelving, hanging from the railing, or on short stools, and use the floor space for seating. Arrange small plants in a row along the railing to make a green column. It works wonders for the view, and really gives you the feeling of being surrounded by greenery, even if you're living right in the heart of the concrete jungle.
- Bright coloured rug and cushions will add richness and glamour to your balcony. A hardy rug (tip: use polypropylene outdoor rug) and cushions are also simple solutions for easy maintenance of your space. You can even move them around or put them away as you like.
- Couple of easy chairs and a little coffee table for resting drinks and books is all that is required to create a purposeful space. But, when you arrange those things in a lushly planted garden and add in a water feature, you'll create a charmingly cozy nook that you'll never want to leave.
- Make sure that your space is not overly cluttered. Keep the look minimalist and classy and not chaotic.. And your balcony will actually help you soothe your mind after a tiring day.
- When the sun goes down light up your balcony with candles, lanterns or simple string lights. You'll never want to go back inside.
