If you think that nice interior or decor is only possible in case of big houses, then you are not right. There are several ways through which you can decorate your small or compact home while making it look bigger says Urban Upgrade's Founder Mohit Mishra. Small spaces are quite challenging as one has to ensure that space is aesthetically designed and should also be comfortable.
- Multi-purpose furniture: use furniture that can be used in different ways such as sofa cum bed or Murphy beds that folds into the wall, wall mounted dining table, wardrobe-cum-study are the ideal ones. Choose furniture that has built-in storage in them like bunk beds.
- Compact storage: storage is a necessary aspect of any home but should not kill the home decor. Hence you can try innovative ways to plan the storage such the loft area between the rooms can be converted into storage space or if you have stairs then the space under the stairs can be used for storage.
- Mirrors and glasses: mirrors can make space look bigger. Hence the use of mirrors and glasses are advisable in small space. You can decorate the walls with mirrors or you can use glass on wardrobe doors or bathroom doors.
- Keep it simple: all the spaces should be well defined and do not need to be filled with a lot of furniture. Keep only that furniture that is needed and leave ample of floor space.
- Lighter shades: light colours make space look bigger. So for a small space light shades like white, ivory and similar tones are ideal. You should also carefully plan the lighting of your house that can achieve using various combinations of lights such as mood lighting, backlit wall panels, lamp and many more.
