Combining different colours sounds easy but ideally it’s quite a tricky job. And not all of us can do it perfectly. Mohit Mishra, Founder, Urban Upgrade Interiors gives some easy colour combination tips with which you can never go wrong and make your home look trendy forever.

  1. Whites and neutral shades: You can never go wrong with whites and any neutral colour palette. Paint the entire house in white, including walls and floors and add different shades of grey, biege, brown to your furniture and accessorize it with curtains and rugs. These shades also make the rooms appear big. You can also add splash of bright colours to add a trendy feel to the decor.
  2. Shades of blue: This colour is known to add freshness and give a calm feeling to the entire space. Combine any shade of blue with white and it will create magic. You can have one wall painted in blue and the rest in white or add cushions and have rugs in different shades of blue and white. If you have a blue colored sofa, you can add dark blue cushions or blue lamp shade for a blue on blue combination.
  3. Peacock green: Combine this colour with blue and white to create a lively environment. Apart from blue and white, try combining peacock green with subtle shades like grey, brown or bright colour. But remember not to go overboard with shades of bright colours as peacock green itself is a bright shade. Having too much of bright colours around will give the space a tacky look. Rather, add small portions of bright colours.
  4. Hot colours: If you like hot hues like red, orange, purple, pink, try to combine and use it in your home. The ideal combination would be any bright shade with white. Try stripes of these colours on walls or use similar colour on cushions, lamp shades, rugs or on any other accessory.
  5. Rust and brown: For time travellers, this is a perfect combination. For a vintage and raw look, add wooden furniture. Use yellow lights for a rustic look. Metallic accessories, including copper bowls, brass lampshades or a corner piece will do the trick. You could also pick clay decorations. To make things easy, use a base colour of your choice in the scheme and simply add a floor-to-ceiling bookshelf. Place your complete book collection on the shelves. All the book covers in different colours would fulfill your desire of all colours at one place.
