Piyush Bhandari, Co-founder- Director, JUMPINGGOOSE ® shares some interesting decor ideas on how we can decorate our homes in a simple and minimalistic way.

Minimalism in design is becoming more and more popular. Unlike other tendencies when strict and cold motifs were more preferable, today the accent is made on softer and live variants of this style. Fundamental principles of minimalism are sharp lines, solid surfaces, low furniture, and pastel shades. The main idea of minimalist design is using simple and natural forms. This principle is a basis of oriental style in design, particularly classic Japanese design that became the very basis for minimalism.

Minimalistic décor is for people who like clear neat spaces. If you are planning to embrace this sort of décor in your home you will have to first eliminate all the clutter you really don't need. Keep the minimum in as this will help you organize this well. It means little furniture, clear lines and more space

  1. Colour Palette
Colours play a vital role and here you cannot go about using too many colour combinations otherwise it will be a riot of colours. It is a good idea to use white for walls and if you want you can also opt for neutral shades like grey, beige, and ash. If you still feel the need to have another colour use one bright colour for the feature wall.
  2. Furniture Tricks
Here some simple, elegant furniture will do the trick. No bulky, big designs or prints. Simplicity is the key to do it right. You can go for pristine white and have some floating shelves to put up the curious. Or you can opt for contemporary style furniture with earthy tones or you can get the coffee table off and streamline the furniture to get more space.
  3. Focus on utility
Just ask yourself, is this absolutely necessary for my home? Unnecessary window treatments or furniture will take away space. So have things that will have functionality and has an artistic feature to it.
Minimalism is more for people who are always on the go. An entrepreneur or someone with a creative mind will really appreciate minimalistic decor. These people like simple, sophisticated and practical décor not only at home but also at work.
