In today’s competitive world, every parent wants his kid to excel at studies. If the vastu for the study room is correct, the child will not only find it easy to concentrate, but will also perform well in his exams. A child’s career and study curves depend upon the north direction: more the space to the north, better the track record at school. If the building is packed or blocked from the north, it creates a problem in vastu which, in turn, makes the child’s focus on study waver. This is how you can manage the study room according to vastu, says SK Mehta...
1. A room situated in the North, East or West is good to be used as a study room. The South East section creates tension and restlessness, the North West leads to instability, while the South West induces laziness in a child.
2. Ask your child to face either North or East (never South) while studying. This aids in memorizing faster.
3. A student should not sit under a beam with his books. However, if the beam is hidden behind a false ceiling, then there’s no problem.
4. A study with windows to the East and North is positive. Keep them open while the child is studying.
5. You can place photographs of Goddess Saraswati and Lord Ganesha in the study room’s North East section. The West wall can be decorated by fixing the photographs of inspiring personalities, which your child can emulate.
6. You can also fix a photograph of your child studying on the North or East wall. Also, photographs of the child at school events and competition should be put on the South West wall.
7. Do not use the photographs which are un-related to the child’s career or which are old in the study room. Also do not have photographs of undesirable role models. Keep in mind, the kind of pictures child keeps continuously seeks, affects him/her subliminally.
8. Place the wall clock to the East or North. Remove broken furniture, out-dated calendars, defective calculators and even leaky pens; they may create negativity.
9. Never face an empty wall while studying. Instead, put a photograph of a God, a timetable, maps, or a photograph of an inspiring personality in front of the child.
10. A student should keep a crystal globe in the North East corner of his study table. The room and the table should be four-cornered. Never use a five-cornered room as a study; it creates mental problems. Also never use an oval table for studying. However, such tables are considered good for students who have a liking for creative fields such as drawing, music, architecture and interior design.
11. White or cream are good for this room. Keep the top of the study table white or cream. You can also have a table with a glass top. For the students of banking, mathematics and commerce, light-green walls are good. For law students, go for light blue, while MBA students will benefit from light pink walls.
12. Always keep only essential material on the study table; don’t clutter it.
13. Keep the study cupboard in the West, South or South West. Also keep the North East section empty and spacious, else the student will not be able to focus on his studies.
14. You can also keep plants, such as a money plant, in the study. Place the plant in the East at the window in a glass bottle or a bowl.

Hi Urvi, Vastu expert (SK Mehta) wants to let you know that the reasons for instability in your kid's behaviour could be because the bedroom in the East direction or North-East zone is too heavy. Also check if the North-East zone has any kind of defects. Secondly the South-West zone should not be very light. Check these aspects. Thanks for writing in. Team Home Tips
