Following are some of the tips Vastu Shastra suggests to safeguard our properties:

Plot Shape: Avoid living in plots that have a triangular,semi-circular or elliptical shapes.
Drainage system: Always design the drainage system in such a way that the disposable/waste water is released in the North-East direction.
The direction of the water body with respect to the house: Ensure that water bodies such as ponds, lakes, tanks do not reside on the south of the house.
Corners and their heights: Vastu Shastra suggests to never build the North-East corner of the house higher than the South-West corner. This ensures the safety of the house.
The best place to store valuables: Never place your locker or safe in the North western corner of the house. Placing the valuables in the North-West direction increases the chance of thefts and robberies as per Vastu Shastra.
Entrance: The main gate should not be constructed in the south or west directions.
A number of doors: Always plan your house in such a way that it has an even number of doors, but, avoid having 10 doors in the house.
Plant tulsi: Always ensure that your garden possesses tulsi plant among several others. It is believed that Tulsi helps to keep evils at bay.
The size of doors: Make sure that size of the main door is much larger than the size of other doors in the house.
Ideal direction for windows: Vastu Shastra tips to have a number of windows in the North-East direction than the South-West direction.
Ideal direction for the bedroom: A house consisting of a bedroom in the South-West direction is considered safe and secure as per Vastu Shastra.
Prayer Hall: The location of the prayer hall in the North-Eastern direction of the house will inject more positive energy in the house.
Avoid pictures that depict negativity: While mounting photo frames, sceneries on the walls, do not ever mount pictures that show atrocities, violence, wars etc. Possessing positive pictures that of deities, flowers, gardens etc. will bring happiness in the house.
Servant quarter: Statistics suggest that many thefts are conducted by servants of the house. So, always make sure that servant room isn’t in the South-West corner of the house. Having servant room in the North or North-West corner will ensure the safety of your house.
