Getting your home vastu shastra-perfect doesn't always mean an expensive overhaul. Simple changes often to the trick… This becomes all more pertinent if the house you live in, isn't your own. Vastu expert SK Mehta tells us simple, easy-on-the-pocket tips to make your rented home bring positive changes in your life…

Keep heavy items in the West and the South area of the house you have rented, and ensure that the North and East zones are clean and tidy with as much empty space as possible. This helps in strengthening your financial balance in life.
Create a worship area in the North East zone to keep your life free from trouble.
Keep water in the North or North East zones to bring prosperity.
Position your master bedroom in the South or West, with the bed's headboard at either south or east. This helps in having a sound sleep, getting a healthy body and keeping your business and family in control.
Place your dressing table in the North or East direction. Mirrors placed in the West or South direction can be a cause of vastudosha. If mirrors are present in the undesirable direction, cover them up with paper or fabric.
If your house has windows in the South or West direction, try to keep them closed as much as possible as these are the directions from which negative waves might enter your house. This may disturb to your mental peace, be a reason for illness and may cause financial loss.
Windows along the South West direction, however, bring happiness and success to your life. Keep them open. Also, if you have a gate constructed in this direction, use it often as an entry and exit point.
In case you live in a single room, keep your cooktop in the South East. This will ensure you enjoy a certain status in society and adequate money in the house.
Keep all your important documents like ATM cards and passports, money and other valuables in the South West, in a wardrobe facing South or East. This will ensure prosperity.
The South West corner of your house should always be illuminated, while the North West corner should not have a bright bulb.
Change your house if :

The North East or the South West segments are broken
The North East section is at an uneven height
The North or East direction is packed or closed
The West zone is too open
The West zone has a water tank or a well, or a basement or a hole
