Winter chill can be alleviated with decor changes to add warmth to your space and cheer to your heart. Interior designer Deeksha Khatree gives simple tips to get your home prepared for the season.
1. Colour change: This can be achieved by changing the paint, furnishings, upholstery, slip covering, decorative items, etc. The easiest and cost-effective option is using dark colours. Brown is considered to be the safest bet. To add little vibrancy, combine brown with orange, purple, green, etc.
2. Re-figure furniture: Rearrange furniture in a rectangular or circular format instead of L-type sitting. For a larger hall, create 2-3 small sittings in rectangular or square format.
3. Manipulate lighting: LEDs, chandeliers, recessed lights can be set to warm colours to create a cosy ambience.
4. The material switch: Instead of using cotton bed sheets, it's time to switch to wool, faux fur, velvet and satin. Such fabrics are commonly used in winters for furniture upholstery, bed sheets, cushion covers, rugs, etc.
5. Warmth underfoot: Use beautiful rich rugs and carpets in all rooms to create a cosy and comfortable ambience.
7. Treating walls: Walls can be treated using wallpaper patterns such as animal patterns and moody florals. They will help in bringing a point of interest to any space.
8. Candle cheer: Candles in a bedroom look pretty when untouched, and even better when lit. Soft candlelight brings warmth to the room and makes the room smell gorgeous.
9. Heaters and fireplaces: Use efficient heaters to give your room a cosy feel. Antique-style coal and wood fire done in a mud pot gives a unique style to the room. An angeethi can also be used.
10. Dining decor: In winters try to use more microwave-friendly crockery as hot beverages and food is the best delight for winters. The dining table can also be decorated using knitted table mats, table cover and chair covers.
