Children’s progress is the vision of every parent. There are certain things that can help children achieve the same. Vastu and feng shui consultant Rashi Gaur gives simple tips and tricks for children’s room decor that will help them stay positive, happy, confident, study harder and concentrate better.
1. In any given situation, ensure that the study and sleeping zone is separate in the children’s room.
2. Balance the decor in the children’s room properly. Don’t make it extra bright and flashy. Similarly, don’t leave it too boring and grey. A good mix of subtle and bright colours is the best combination. Leave the walls in soft and soothing shades of white or cream with touches of bright paintings, photographs or fun posters. Keep the ceilings white or off white. Don’t paint them in bright colours as it may depress the child.
3. Natural light energizes the space and lifts energy. For this reason, keep the windows of the children’s room open to let in sunlight.
4. According to feng shui, the North East direction is considered to be the education zone. Ensure you keep it clutter-free. Also, place a crystal globe in the North East zone of the child's room or study desk. You can even place a 7-level pagoda to help your children with the education factor.
5. Vastu considers East as the zone of knowledge. Hence make sure that children face East while studying. This also helps in increasing concentration. Again make sure that this zone is kept clutter-free as this is also the zone of growth, knowledge and learning. Also, pay close attention to the West of South West zone. Place children's school books in this direction as it leads to increased levels of concentration and hard work.
6. While studying, the back of the child should not face the window. A solid wall behind the back is important. Similarly while sleeping, the head should not point to a window. However, it's a great idea to have a window to the side of the bed and keep it open every day for some time so that fresh and positive energy can enter the room. The bed headrest can be placed towards the south or the east wall to get quality sleep.
7. Avoid having open book shelves in the room as the edges of the books act as poison arrows and can harm anyone who occupies the room.
8. If there are stuffed toys placed in the room, avoid having wild animal toys in their room as this will lead to bad dreams and erratic sleep patterns. Even posters, comic characters, caricatures etc. should not be displayed if they depict angry characters for the same reason.
9. A room facing the North West direction is apt for a grown-up daughter.
10. If your child is appearing for competitive exams, a room facing the West of South West will help to concentrate better and study harder. On the other hand, to excel in the sports category, a room facing West is good.
