10 indoor plants that are easy to maintain

Indoor plants add subtle beauty to interiors. Some of them -- such as the good luck bamboo and money plants -- can even be grown in water. So take transparent glass containers, add a few coloured pebbles, and the plant will brighten your rooms. Landscape designer Nandita Kwatra shares her list of easy-to-maintain indoor plants.
1Philodendron: Philodendron on moss sticks:
Philodendrons are available in vine and non-climbing variety. The vine variety is best in pots with moss stick (as the stick helps the vine to grow upwards). The leaves are green and glossy in appearance. This plant should be kept in light, humid conditions, away from heat and direct sunlight. Moss keeps the temperature down and should be kept moist at all the time.
2Feathers Palm:
A native of Mexico and Central America, this small plant grows to a maximum height of 3 to 6 ft (1 to 2m). Its leaves are narrow, with sharp segments and bright green in colour. These palms grow in the shade of tall trees in nature and dislike direct sunlight. This plant needs water frequently, but not too copiously.
3Syngonium:
You can choose between light-pink and light-green leaved varieties. The pointed, fish-shaped leaves are beautiful and this is a popular indoor plant.
4Maranta:
These species have many varieties with dark green leaves, variegated with irregular light green marks between the veins. Water regularly in summer when soil is dry, and spray the leaves frequently.
5Dracaena:
This plant is striking because of its beautiful ornamental foliage. Its broad green leaves sport golden central bands. It can grow in water easily.
6Peace Lilies:
White flowers mark the beauty of this dark green plant with long, slim leaves.
7Coleus:
Coleus, too, is popular owing to this showy foliage. The leaf and its margin take a variety of forms. The leaves are generally two-toned, with the edging of one colour and the central portion of another.
8Money plants:
Money plants are attractive, low maintenance and sturdy. They are easy to grow in water and soil, and can be kept anywhere – bedrooms, living rooms and even in bathrooms for a touch of greenery.
9Spider plants:
Sometimes also called Airplane plants, these have light-green, grass-like leaves growing in a fountain-like form. Once fully grown, spider plants have tiny white flowers on long arching stems that look like spiders.
10Schefflera:
Dark green leaves are the hallmark of this houseplant. Very easy to keep at home, schefflera comes in many varieties – the most popular one being the umbrella tree and the dwarf umbrella tree.
