10 effects and remedies for irregularly shaped houses

Vastu and feng shui divide the space into 8 directions, 4 cardinal directions – North, South, East and West and 4 ordinal directions: North West, South East, North East and South West. Each direction or each zone represents a certain element in our lives. Hence it is important that the house we choose has all of these zones intact. That’s the reason why it is so important to choose a space that is regular rather than it being irregular. Vastu shastra and feng shui consultant Rashi Gaur lists the remedies for irregularly shaped house.
- The best kind of shape to choose is either a rectangular plot or a square one. This ensures there are no important zones missing and hence it is easy to balance the energies of such a house.
- While square is a perfect shape as it represents the earth energy, which is excellent for residential purposes, you can also easily opt for rectangular houses. While choosing a rectangular house, make sure that it follows the ratio of 1:2. Very elongated houses defeat the purpose of good vastu.
- Circular shapes represent very high energy and while they are good for hotels, banks or convention halls, you shouldn’t opt for them for living purposes as the northeast corner is lost and not considered auspicious. A missing North East can bring lot of unnecessary mental tension to one’s life.
- If the North zone is missing in a house, it can bring financial and career setbacks in your life.
- If the East zone is missing it can cause ill health and block your growth and prosperity. Similarly when there is an irregularity in the North West zone you will find issues in the life of the patriarch and South West severely cut or missing can bring relationship issues to the family members.
- When the irregularity is present in terms of a little protruding zone or corner, it enhances the power of that zone. If your house is protruding slightly towards the North, you will always find career opportunities on the upswing and when slightly protruding towards the South, you will create a name for yourself and will be well known in your field of work. When the house is protruding a bit towards the West, you will always have the strength to work harder.
- When the corners are missing rather intensely, the ideal situation would be to create a wall or a room, turning an irregular shape into a regular one. If this is not possible, putting mirrors on the walls of missing corners acts as a remedy. You can also uplift the energy of this zone by placing plants here.
- Energized pyramids can be placed in the zones that are missing but this has to be done under the guidance of an expert.
- Ensure that whichever zone of the house is missing, for example the East zone, highlight and uplift the energies of the East zone of your main living room. A living room represents your house. In this case, if the East corner is missing, you can place plants in the East zone of your living room or place a painting that represents the East element such as flowers or a beautiful landscape. This will do away with the ill effects of the missing zone.
- Shining a bright light on the wall where the zone is severely cut also helps to uplift its energy.
